If you will read 17-20, you will see how angry God was because Israel chose to Fear Him yet serve other Gods because of the influence of the neighboring nations. His anger spared Judah for some time but even with that grace given Tribe of Judah still failed and He was also removed from the sight of God. They were conquered.
In verse 41 the last verse, isn't it very sad to hear that the people never stopped hurting God. "So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day." It is still happening until this day, in our own generation. One day the Anger of God will remove every people upon His sight. One day Judgement will come once and for all. You might think, how can this be applicable to us as believers? We don't serve graven images anymore. We don't serve Baal or what so ever; but search your heart. Is there anything or anyone that takes the Place of #1 in our hearts besides God. He actually should be THE ONLY ONE. No equality on earth can replace that position but if you take something else or someone else in the position where God belongs it is the same thing that Israel did. It can be as simple as our Jobs, our movie idols, money, hobbies, sports and even relationships. Anything that has became Lord of our lives. Today I pray Lord cleanse our hearts and help us to know WHO YOU REALLY ARE IN OUR LIVES. Lord God thank You for the life that You have given us, we are Yours and help us to understand that this is a borrowed life. A life that really doesn't belong to us. Help us to fix our eyes on what is Eternal and not to what is Temporary Lord. Thank You Jesus! Amen! |
